The 19th edition of the BritishSpanish Society Scholarship Awards is open for applications
The scholarship programme was launched in 2008, building on the Society’s history and creating the foundation for the Society’s charitable mission. The Society was formed in 1916 by a group of academics, student and professionals keen to promote trade, friendship and shared education between Britain and Spain. In launching the scholarship programme then Chairman Jimmy Burns Marañón was able to embody the spirit of the Society in a way which would directly and positively impact the lives of future researchers. The scholarship programme to this day has only two key stipulations; candidates must be British or Spanish, ad be studying at post-graduate level. All and any field of study is considered in oder to open the opportunity to the brightest of young minds.
In recent years, scholarship awards have been given to to scholars with projects as wide ranging as mental health, cross border law topics, explorations of historical musicians, their music and musical exchange, sustainable fashion, cultural exchange, public finances, youth development and environmental studies.
The 2026 awards are generously supported by BBVA, Fundación Cañada Blanch and Santander, and by the members, patrons circles and friends of the BritishSpanish Society.
Our 2026 search begins for the inspirational researchers who will solve the issues facing the world today, explore the hidden treasures and people of the past or simply teach us more about the ares of research they are passionate about.. could you, one of your students, a colleague or family member be one of this year’s winners?
