Spain’s first female Ambassador to the UK exclaims 'de perdidos, al rio', and selects her perfect guest list for the huge Residence dining table
Ambassador Emma Aparici Vázquez de Parga talks to La Revista about what brought her into public life and how she intends to spend any spare time with her watercolour brushes, jazz and a saucepan of paella.
Emma Aparici Vázquez de Parga was appointed Ambassador to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in December 2025. She is the first woman to ever serve in that role in over 500 years of diplomatic relations.
Born in Madrid in 1973 she holds a law degree and joined the Spanish Foreign Service in 2004. Throughout her diplomatic career she has held various positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Spain, including working in the office of different Ministers and in the Directorate-General for the United Nations. Overseas, she served as Deputy Head of Mission in Libya and as Secretary at the Mission of Spain to the UN. She also served as Secretary General for Foreign Affairs at the Prime Minister of Spain's Office. She has been awarded the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Isabella the Catholic and the Order of Civil Merit.
