26 March 2026 – Lord Brennan receives the Canning medal

Husband of Patron Lady Pilar Brennan, Lord Daniel Brennan was awarded the Canning Medal in recognition of his lifetime of service to UK-Latin American relations, in an event also attended by fellow BritishSpanish Society Patron Baroness Hooper.

The Canning Medal was introduced in 2013 to commemorate Canning House’s 70th anniversary. It is not awarded every year and is exclusively reserved for distinguished persons who have contributed significantly to the strengthening of UK-Latin American relations. Lord Brennan is the sixth recipient of the Canning Medal.

The evening commenced with opening remarks from Jeremy Browne. As CEO of Canning House, he celebrated Lord Brennan’s long-standing relationship with the institution, having previously served as the Honorary President.

H.E. Ambassador Iván Romero Martínez, Ambassador of Honduras to the UK, and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, presented the Canning Medal to Lord Brennan. In his speech, the Ambassador thanked the recipient for his lifetime of service to international relations between the UK, Latin America, and Iberia.

Lord Brennan thanked the assembled company and reflected on his achievements. In particular, he discussed his work in reforming legal systems in Latin America and the importance of continued cooperation between the UK, Latin America, and Iberia to protect democratic institutions.

Baroness Hooper CMG, herself a recipient of the medal, closed the day’s proceedings by echoing the company’s gratitude for Lord Brennan’s indefatigable work to raise the visibility of Latin America in the UK.

The BritishSpanish Society echos Canning House’s gratitude, admiration, and recognition of all the effort Lord Brennan has expended over the course of his career to furthering a shared mission of fostering closer relations between the UK and Spain, and Latin America.
