Our Dinner Club visit in March on the first (hopefully of many to come) dry and springlike evening we have experienced in London for a long few months too us to País Vasco inspired Sagardi. Just a short walk from bustling Liverpool Street into the trendy streets of Shoreditch we were promised both Basque Country atmosphere and flavours. The restaurant’s creators pride themselves on delivering an authentic Basque experience and as we entered the restaurant those of us who had spent time in the Basque Country definitely sensed a familiarity, and as we meandered through the forest of solid wooden tables and chairs to reach our table passing our main course, two huge Txuleton steaks resting on wooden chopping boards and destined for the bbq, we were confident in the promise of bold flavour and Basque quality.
After a brief welcome from the events team our starters arrived, a delicious selection of finely sliced jamón, croquetas bulging with creamy mushrooms, codfish tortilla, paté and juicy pan con tomate. Members then had time to chat and await the main course, the still enormous Txuleton steaks served with lettuce and crispy potatoes.
We ended the meal with a trio of the chef’s favourite desserts, which many of us couldn’t quite manage having devoured the plentiful starters and succulent steak.
It was another lovely evening of BritishSpanish friendship.
Thank you to member Nicole Crespo O’Donogue for suggesting tonight’s restaurant. If you have a suggestion for our next Dinner Club venue please do contact the team on info@britishspanishsociety.org.
