26 March 2026 – On Thursday, 26 March, Lord Daniel Brennan, husband of BritishSpanish Society Patron Lady Pilar Brennan, was awarded the Canning Medal, in recognition of his lifetime dedication to the UK-Latin America relationship. Baroness Hooper, herself a recipient of the award, and also a Patron of the BritishSpanish Society, closed the evening with her own congratulations to Lord Brennan. Canning House awarded the Canning Medal to Lord Daniel Brennan on 26 March. The medal was awarded in recognition of his lifetime of service to UK-Latin American relations.
The Canning Medal was introduced in 2013 to commemorate Canning House's 70th anniversary. It is not awarded every year and is exclusively reserved for distinguished persons who have contributed significantly to the strengthening of UK-Latin American relations. Lord Brennan is the sixth recipient of the Canning Medal.
The evening commenced with opening remarks from Jeremy Browne. As CEO of Canning House, he celebrated Lord Brennan’s long-standing relationship with the institution, having previously served as the Honorary President.
H.E. Ambassador Iván Romero Martínez, Ambassador of Honduras to the UK, and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, presented the Canning Medal to Lord Brennan. In his speech, the Ambassador thanked the recipient for his lifetime of service to international relations between the UK, Latin America, and Iberia.
Lord Brennan thanked the assembled company and reflected on his achievements. In particular, he discussed his work in reforming legal systems in Latin America and the importance of continued cooperation between the UK, Latin America, and Iberia to protect democratic institutions.
Baroness Hooper CMG, herself a recipient of the medal, closed the day’s proceedings by echoing the company’s gratitude for Lord Brennan’s indefatigable work to raise the visibility of Latin America in the UK.
