Wednesday, 24th OctoberIX Annual BritishSpanish Society Concert: Zarzuela EveningGuildhall School of Music, Music Hall
We are delighted to announce the magnificent Annual BSS Concert IX Edition with Guildhall School of Music, supported by the Office for Cultural and Scientific Affairs, Spanish Embassy and the British Spanish Society on Wednesday 24th October.
A one-hour illustrated performance with Guildhall singers celebrate the Spanish Zarzuela tradition, featuring works by great masters such as Arrieta, Caballero, Chapí, Giménez, Guerrero, Serrano, Sorozábal, Moreno Torroba and Vives, in a concert curated by Ricardo Gosalbo and sponsored by the charity the British Spanish Society.
The Zarzuela is a Spanish-derived musical theatre in which the dramatic action is carried through an alternating combination of song and speech. Topics of the libretti vary widely, ranging from stories derived from Greco-Roman mythology to tales of modern-day life in Madrid, in former Spanish colonies, or in other areas with a large Hispanic population. Most zarzuelas incorporate vocal ensemble numbers (such as trios and duets), lyrical solo songs known as romanzas, various types of local folk musics, and dance.
Following the stunning performance, guests will have the opportunity to have a small reception with the performers.
