Thursday, 26th OctoberHolding Up the Mirror: UK-Spain cultural relations in the light of BrexitCanning House

Following last year’s success of the inaugural Holding Up The Mirror conference examining different aspects of UK-Spain bilateral cultural relations, we return with another  distinguished panel of British and Spanish experts. On this occasion we will discuss how UK culture and society is emerging in the eyes of Spaniards as well as Brits in light of Brexit, and in what direction relations between the two countries and wider Hispanic world are headed.

 

A relevant and diverse panel of speakers from diplomacy, journalism, politics, economics and academic backgrounds will be discussing the thrilling challenges that Great Britain, Spain and Europe will be facing in the light of Brexit.

 

Speakers will include a Spanish expert among British MP’s, currently a Labour party member of the influential House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee CHRIS BRYANT MP,  the best-selling author and leading international reporter for El Pais the Anglo-Spanish JOHN CARLINthe New York Times Spain correspondent RAPHAEL MINDER, former official at Banco de España and currently Cuatrecasas Partner FERNANDO MÍNGUEZ will present a fascinating financial approach, the Spanish academic and scientist Dr ESTRELLA LUNA (Sheffield University) and GILES PAXMAN, former UK Ambassador to Spain and Mexico.

 

This event will be chaired by author & journalist JIMMY BURNS, Chairman of the British Spanish Society.
