British education at its finest
Virtus, The British Sixth Form College was born in 2016 with the aim of offering an innovative and personalised education to fulfil an educational need increasingly demanded by parents who choose a British education.
This concept goes back to the origins of the first public schools in the United Kingdom, where the number of students per class was limited in order to meet individual needs. This helped students feel supported by teachers and generated a collective sense of encouragement, motivation and ambition that benefited the entire school.
When the founders come together after finishing their studies at Oxford University and Imperial College London, they share the vision of creating a Sixth Form College with an educational model where excellence prevails in all aspects and trains students for the challenges and trends of the future. Since then, the trust of parents and students has allowed Virtus to grow and establish itself in a new location in the heart of La Moraleja, solidifying its identity as a British school specialised in the A-Level stage.
Virtus, The British Sixth Form College is an innovative Sixth Form College devoted to academic excellence and holistic education. Virtus specialises in A-level with an average of 5 students per class.
The school of the future
A British school with 80 students split into two year groups (Year 12 and Year 13) with a flexible educational programme that meets the needs of every student. Virtus provides a cutting-edge education that makes use of the best tools from the education sector, an innovative methodology based on active learning and an emphasis on acquiring 21st-century skills and competencies.
Their mission is to bring out the full potential of future generations by offering them a cutting-edge education focused on personalisation, innovation, and excellence.
Average of 5 students per class, maximum of 9
Their educational environment in small groups allows for top quality education, a more solid support network and greater closeness between the teaching staff and students, while allowing them to provide all the tools needed to nurture their individual potential and achieve better results.
The ultimate preparation for university
Their educational programme ensures there is one-of-a-kind approach towards the strategy, support and enrichment required for university access. Virtus analyses each student’s starting point using vocational tests, design an individual strategy for the two upcoming years and work to meet the milestones set, enriching their profile with the knowledge and competencies required for their particular degree.
Virtus’ academic results are in line with their main objective: for all students to gain access to their first or second choice university each year at the most prestigious institutions in the world. In general terms, Virtus graduates are distributed mainly between the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Spain, approximately in equal parts. These continue to be the preferred destinations due to the high quality of education and job opportunities, although recently there have been students studying their degree in the United States, Italy, Switzerland and Hungary, among others.
The reputation of the universities they access is proof that they work day by day in pursuit excellence, helping each individual to be the best version of themselves and to maximise their potential.
Academic, university and personal Goals. Understanding Virtus via the goals of the Gate-to-Gate Model.
The Vocational Profile that they carry out for each student, added to their personal and academic interests, allows us to design a Roadmap for their school stage in Virtus aimed at development on three fronts: academic, university and personal.
The Roadmap determines to a large extent the aspects of the educational program in which the student participates, how the academic support materialises and the areas to work on with the Mentor.
Their Gate-to-Gate Model is bespoke educational program, tailored to the needs of each student, with a unique support for university access and a focus on 21st-century skills.
Their Mentoring Program provides holistic and individual support, channelling the objectives of the Roadmap that they establish for each student.
The British curriculum
At Virtus, they work with the International A-Levels (IALs), a variant of the conventional A-Level in which students are officially examined in January and May of Year 12 and Year 13, dividing the examination content into four series instead of one. In addition, each subject is divided into modules (separate components) that allow work around the syllabus in a more structured way.
At Virtus, the Co-Curriculum offer revolves around the Gate-to-Gate model: from the gate of the school to the gate of the university. The Co-Curriculum has two main branches: on the one hand, the Co-Curricular Clubs are a fundamental piece of their pre-university approach, providing students with specific skills and knowledge highly valued by universities, with the aim of delving into an academic field of their interest.
On the other hand, the Stage Space is a programme based on the participation of students in formal debates (raised around cultural and current issues) and the practice of performing arts and theatre. The Co-Curriculum is the cornerstone for equipping their students with transversal skills that allow them to face the challenges of the 21st-century, such as critical thinking, intellectual curiosity and public speaking. It also offers a global outlook and a broader knowledge of their academic and professional interests.
